VOCAL PRACTICE

Vocal Key Fit

Use the lowest and highest notes in a melody to find how far to shift it into your comfortable singing range.

Compare the two ranges

Start with the example below or replace the four notes with your own. C4 is middle C.

Melody
Your comfortable range

The result checks the endpoints. Try the busiest phrase and any sustained high notes before settling on a key.

Try the result with a short take

  1. Use Vocal Range Test to find notes you can repeat comfortably. Use Pitch Detector to double-check a steady note and its octave.
  2. Apply the suggested shift to your backing track with Online Pitch Changer. Start by singing a short phrase that contains one of the melody’s endpoints.
  3. If you record two takes, keep the device and mic placement consistent. Use Sound dB Meter to compare the input levels under the same setup.
